Mahigit sa kaibigan, butiki

Mahigit sa kaibigan, butiki

A Poem by Cece
"

More than friends, lizard

"

i saw the lizard crying
he said i left the lizard crying
he knows i'm gone for a long time

he was company everyday
i saw him on the wall
scurrying about denying gravity

he wait every morning
for me to wake
he collected the night
so i can wake

i decided his name
just naming him gecko
it just seems to fit

i hear the lizard crying
he is alone now
but he was such a friend
he was always there as i slept

slept though the night
knowing the lizard was there
now he sleeps alone
as i am gone now

now i am in aircon
with hot water shower
and another friend for companion
but not as good of companion as you

oh dear lizard do not cry
you will have me back again
then i can sleep though the night
knowing you are there

oh , i love this piece. the visual of the lizard is so dear. I have to admit the first thing I thought of was my time I did mission work in Dominica and I was in the church and people would scream as the lizards would crawl through the church and watch them hang on the walls. It is just like how in the US we have spiders everywhere and people (myself included) are very scared of those spiders. Anyway, I of course then felt deeper into the poem and understood it to be much deeper. The metaphor made me smile and feel sad thinking of the loneliness. How hard it is to be apart. The piece is just absolutely charming!

i always said, small things are the genesis of emotion and emotion once controlled becomes a poetry at the hand of the poet. here you have personified the poor lizard as well there is a story of the poet lurking beneath...
