Above Rubies

Above Rubies

A Poem by Eric Weick

And she got him,
cowering in the bathroom stall.
And she had him,
loading up words for a fight, that in the end,
didn't matter at all.
And she got him, pounding Walker,
from his head to the floor, on which he falls.
And she got him, Oh yes, she's got him, got him
by his... eyes, eyes.
by the... eyes, eyes.
David, seven years
on an island with Calypso.
Odysseus, one night, with a daughter of the oath,
only to lose a child of your own.
Six months, trying to play yourself off, as a woman,
but you are a girl.
He was friends at first, but the last look you gave him,
made him, want to hurl
And they asked why he was so,
stricken blind?
He said "Friend I didn't want my soul
to have to pay for this. Her eyes, let me tell you,
can be dangerous."
Oh virtuous woman?  I am the richest man alive,
and yet I still don't have enough.

I read this as him begging to be let go of something he cannot, will not, control. A she that will drown him in his own ego, spinning into the abyss that is her. But dying with a smile
