Bottled SummerA Poem by ChristineMenories of a slow lazy hot summer.Bottled Summer
If I could bottle it, I would
I would put summer in a jar
And on a cloudy drizzly winter's day
Lift the lid carefully so it doesn't escape
And breathe deeply of all the scents of summer
Those scents which summon up butterflies
And bees and buddleia
Grass after rain
And still silent nights
And memories of moths and a full moon shining
Once a month perhaps
Or in the gloom of January
Or at the height of a winter's storm
I would unstopper that bottle
And relive the lazy, slow, heady, drowsy days of summer
