The Karma Smorgasbord

The Karma Smorgasbord

A Poem by Carole
"

It ALL comes out in the WASH...WE WILL REAP BOUNTIFULLY FROM WHAT WE SOW, be it good or bad. It's not something we like to think about, but it is the unadulterated TRUTH.

             The Karma Smorgasbord

Come one, come all, and join the feast

Prepare yourselves for a delectable treat

What you partake in is your predilection

Your smorgasbord is your selective discretion

What goes up must come down

What we dish out will come back around

It’s all up to us what we will eat

Will it be acidulated or will it be sweet?

I’ve lived long enough to have learned a few ropes

Been on sundry sides of the slope

If you dish out kindness, you procure the same

If you dish out ugliness, make way for the pain

Slander and careless inculpation’s carry a heavy weight

As we do what we wish & follow our fate

Determining this day to whom we will bow

Making a choice and emulating our crowd

A price will be paid for hostile malevolence

While a blessing accompanies those who choose to esteem & respect

A multifarious smorgasbord lavished as we wish

A rancid casserole or a titillating dish

Just taking a synopsis of those who freely accuse

Lofty lovers of gossip, slander, and abuse

The index finger barbed & pointed with pithy insistence undue

Quickly differentiating the guilty from the tried and true

Those that are innocent have nothing to hide

They relax in quietude and calmly abide

Filled with infinite harmony & copious peace

They recline at their spread of an elaborate feast

Of buoyant laughter, joy, and incredulous tranquility

Unruffled & undisturbed with exemplary placidity

Happy-go-lucky and free from guilt and shame

They don’t have to “Do Drama” and play the game

The school of hard knocks is taking applications

We can choose freely our part of the equation

So, let’s get our hammers and delineate palisades

Uncover the charlatan, the fraudulent & the fakes

We can speak what we will and do what we please

Then lift our hands toward heaven and get ready to receive

Our myriad of choices is as diverse as the sea

We each hold the answer-We each hold the key

Come one, come all, and join the feast

Prepare yourselves for a delectable treat

What you partake in is your predilection

Your smorgasbord is your selective discretion

What goes up must come down

What we dish out will come back around

It’s all up to us what we will eat

Will it be acidulated or will it be sweet?

This is a great piece of writing you have here Carole. I personally have a very strong belief on Karma because it's all is in my Dharma! :)
It is written in our religious books that any person's actions do affects hisher next reincarnation, So...I found this piece of writing very true and very much close to my heart as it touches my religious values!

"What goes up must come down
What we dish out will come back around
It's all up to us what we will eat
Will it be acidulated or will it be sweet?" - These four lines for me out stands the entire write, So deep!!

This is really a very powerful piece of writing, your words are so wise and the flow is really awesome too..!
(Also, the formatting and choice of words is brilliant)

Great work Carole! :)

I love your style of writing. It so, "matter-of-fact" This is very true. I am a big believer in what goes around...It always comes out in the wash.

You have certainly served up a colourful dish of intellectual digestion.

Karma literally means deed or act, and more broadly names the universal principle of cause and effect, action and reaction, which Hindus believe governs all life.

The metaphorical use of the word Smrgsbord (a holiday feast at which the family and guests can help themselves to whatever takes their fancy from a range of dishes laid out for their choice), lives up to it's interpretation, as reader after reader reviews suggest; one helping of this piece is not enough - you need to come back for more!.

That's for a great share! Isn't it a pity though; that some people never learn from their life lessons and carry on making the same mistakes over and over again!

I liked your piece and thought it was thought provoking. Not to forget to mention it's well written.
I must also add that Karma is a strange force but I wouldn't agree with all of it. If that's true a lot of people get hurt for other peoples Karma. I also agree with Heather about the story of Job, this man's dealings were more harsh then any action he delivered.

I believe in Karma, but only as it pin-points the soul responsible for something we know He/she did not to be confused with someone life that is badly disgraced. Some people blame Karma for the harshes events but as you and I both agree that is false. thanks forthe write.

I love this Carole, it is immediatly going into my favorites. Your use of rhymes just added to the spectacular write. I love the subject matter, I believe you described it very, very well. It's not to long, not to wordy, says what it needs to and gets the point across. Super job here, can't say enough or say it well enough! This is just GREAT!! (Agree with Bhavya on this one, powerful, deep, wise, great flow and format) He said what I was trying to get at. (Thanks Bhavya!) :)

For me personally this reads better without the title including Karma (specifically a Buddhist/Hindu term). I like the reap/sow aspect you've set up, but I don't believe we come back "reincarnated", so the Karma thing is throwing me off. That said, I wanted to acknowledge the positivity in your piece. As we know religions have good intentions and cross over much. And I was in agreement with all you set up here and it was nicely done. There was a time I tossed the Karma word around casually--when my faith grew with Jesus I found I started rejecting the word...odd?...I wonder if I am in a minority here? Perhaps you are making a point of the connection amongst religions, you do mention heaven? Not to go on too much about Karma (sorry I'm so stuck on that)...Karma in the title gives away too much too quickly perhaps, since it is so well known? It could be implied without saying it? Now that I gone on about all that--I will admit, there is a song by Jessica Andrews that I really like...still do, it's called "Karma". : ) lyrics within, "what comes around, goes around, I"m telling you baby..."

So interesting how you put this together with all the different colors and words. I too have seen things come back to slap people in the face. The exact same thing that they have done coming back up to bite them. It's amazing!
On the other hand, I always remember Job who suffered greatly although innocent.
Thanks for sharing such a thought provoking piece!

"We each hold the answer-We each hold the key"
This the verse I like the best. This is a colorful and spontanious breath of the Karma we should strive to obtain. It reads easy and the speed is spot on. Great work.
