Jumping on the Wrong Band Wagon

Jumping on the Wrong Band Wagon

A Poem by Carole
"

How easy it is for anyone of us to pick up the offense of another whether a child's, a spouse's or a friend's. Isn't it enough to deal with our own? Holding resentment, bitterness and unforgiveness towards others utterly destroys.

"

Jumping on the Wrong Band Wagon

Be ever so careful, my sister-my brother

Not to pick up the offense of another

Though it comes natural to want to protect

Not knowing both sides will surely infect

Our thinking becomes muddled very quickly

Our hearts become muddied and sickly

As we carry their knap sack on our backs

Along side our own personal pack

Our words can inflict pain like a sharp arrow

Piercing a heart and plundering joints and marrow

In an effort to protect a friend, sister or brother

We quickly and thoughtlessly ravage another

We aren’t always aware of what this dear one is going through

Sometimes we have not the slightest clue

We’re too quick to pass judgment, too quick to pull back the bow

Creating a heart with numerous wounds and holes

The damage has already precariously been done

Nothing has been accomplished and we definitely haven’t won

The ravaged pieces must be picked up and put back into place

While healing and encouragement is extended to get back into the race

The law of gravity is a part of life

We’ll reap what we’ve sown, be it love or strife

For what goes up, must always come down

What we hand out will come back around

If we speak well of others, we will be spoken well of

If we speak ill of others, we will be spoken ill of

If we deal out cards of strife and dissention

We’ll be dealt back anger and contention

If we want to be loved, we must choose to love others

If we want to be encouraged, we must encourage another

Yes, the law of gravity works for friends and for foes

We will generously reap whatever we choose to sow

Words of wisdom, and hopefully they will speak to those who need a bit more of it. The pen is definitely mightier than the sword, and the wounds of a soul are worse by far than those of flesh and bone.

I try to keep an open ear to all parties; when all is said and done, it is usually quite obvious who is the reasonable party and who is not.

Remember the saying about walking about walking in another's shoes.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Words are horrible. They can mean so many different things. Worse is those that become written down and open to analyses. Us as writers often have incredible nuances and sublties in our sentences that others may miss, interpret incorrectly or just ignore.
This is a really sensitive piece.

Carole, you said a mouth full .. so well and so beautiful.
Words are one of the most powerful weapon there is ,, they can do so much damage.

Helping each other is why we are here.. lend a helping hand to a brother or a sister .. 'he/she ain't heavy, he's / she's my brother '/sister... true that and true this poem.. really like it such a positive and loving message ..

smile -- that's what I did throughout this Poem. Knowledge of worth has no prejudice or disdain for the mind is to wonder as the Heart is to awe from whence all Poetry came! Review in words what words are to say and judge not their Heart in any way. The heart does not differentiate but the mind can discern and where we may fault our words may them burn, so speak in elegance all that you see, for all that you in charity give is all we can really be!

writeous write so lyrically alive with generosity of Art and sincerity of mind

These words ring so true. I love what you are saying here and your use of rhyme and flow help the lesson go down easier. We do reap what we sow, unfortunately, sometimes even when you don't put your two cents in, people still have something to say. People can destroy someones life with words, but some of those people will never see it that way because the people that they are destroying have alreaady been proved guilty in their minds.
Hopefully your message will get through to some. That's what getting published is for!

I have been there. I think it's human nature to run to the defense of a known friend, but like you say, there is always two sides. It doesn't make you bad, but in my case it made me look foolish. Great reminder to be cautious. Loved this piece. Rain..

Your poem is full of wisdom and reads like a dream. Beautiful rhyming here while teaching a powerful message! "The pen is mightier than the sword," but at times the pen can be a sword as well. Your words: "As we carry their knap sack on our backs Along side our own personal pack..." I especially enjoyed this vision. I really admire your poem and the message of Proverbs that rings though. I can see why it is the #1 writing on here...quite a treasure!

I don't feel it is my place to say that a piece of writing is bad. How can I judge the place that your writing comes from. I love that others enjoy my work and are inclined to leave comments about how a piece makes them feel or that my words made them stop and think. I honestly think that is one of the greatest compliments we can receive as a writer. That our words mattered to someone just as your words here. You are great writer and I have enjoyed reading you I am one of those people that reads anything that is sent my way. I love to read others and to see the world through others eyes.

Your words are most proverbial, expressing truths, based on common sense and the practical experiences of humanity. The poetical encapsulation of a biblical ethos, stylishly composed and professionally delivered.

Excellent write!
