Sticks and Stones

Sticks and Stones

A Poem by Carole

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

How obsurd!

Pondering,

Musing,

Wondering?

Where did the author of

the quote

above

get such a

preponderous

idea?

Did they actually

live on

this planet?

Perhaps this

was quoted by

an Ostrich.

The one with

his head in the sand.

this has me running off to google the dang thing, though my assumption would be Shakes
I like what you've done with it however. It is a rather silly notion....almost taunting the word slinger into grabbing a club...

thanks for sharing! enjoyed this

This one really made me smile. I know even back when I was a small child I believed this to be rather nuts LOL!

The meaning is that there is no physical harm, no blood or bruises. In that it is true.

Words can have an affect on the psyche for good or ill. It is all up to the state of mind, whether or not you take the words to heart. People that are more sensitive will be hurt or offended by words, than those that are more secure with their own self esteem.

There are also those that are not helped by positive feedback, so words will never help them.

I like the poem that you have written, it expresses an opinion, and I love it for that fact. I love to hear other points of view, it is a way to stay open to knew lessons.

Perhaps it was even a real ostrich who came up with the quote, while some hoodlums were taunting it and making fun of its long neck! lol An imaginitive and valid little rant Carole! Julian:)

The pen is mightier than the sword indeed and we all know what the sword is capable of. Yet, a sword can be wielded for good or evil, for truth or lie, just as the pen. It is not personal conviction that makes right. Many a tyrant had personal conviction that they were blessed and annointed by God. But character, even BAD character can be an admirable trait as it is better than no character or conviction at all. Therefore, it is wise to keep one's friends close and one's enemies even closer and to choose one's words carefully that we become "wise as serpents and harmless as doves".

I am such a dweeb sometimes. lol I know I came here and read this. I thought I had left a review ...So true it is, the sayin' is just a lie. I know it is a lie, I learned that as a kid. I never understood quite how but some words can sometimes burn my ears. Some things that I remember from my childhood ... I hear certain words or phrases and I freeze with fear. I can't speak or move for a few moments, some times I begin trembling. And my ears burn, they actually turn bright red. lol It is so sad ... does it ever stop? So yes words can harm you. I know this. ... a wonderful post Carole

I wonder too Carole, the pain from the sticks and stones is not lingering like those from words.
Very good thoughts and rant.
