Amongst

Amongst

A Poem by Cait

Amongst

Amongst delight of sweetened breaths,

A place of thriving dreams

Absent of the faint oppressed

Dwelling within shallow streams.

Amongst the dance of wispy waves

Upon summer-stained shores,

The delightful demeanor of pleasant grace

Was all the grand more.

‘Twas tasteful to brightened eyes

Held within deep, yet timid, gaze

Had fallen short upon pined lies;

Caused endless, painful days.

Amongst the shadows of sovereign states,

A tasteless hindrance so dulled

The broken whip of debonair

Sought union from the beautiful.

Upon misfortune, misplaced glee

Mountains of mischief had borne

A place of hope remains unseen,

As misgoverned minions scorn.

Amongst the currents of rising tides

Hidden ‘neath a pile of ambiguity,

Frivolous dreams long since died,

Dwindling from uncertainty.

The drowning foster of lost hope

Tore apart tormented fleets.

These were the people: future -- past.

These were the lovers of all things free.

Amongst the sails of blackened ships,

Solely lead Death’s breath and grace

Washed sun-lit shores from living grasp;

The hollowed hallow drifts astray.
