power or hope...which is stronger

power or hope...which is stronger

A Poem by Carla (trying to make every day count)

Silently he watches

Whomever he touches, he destroys

Pain, fear and loathing are left in his wake

She hopes for help

Does not cry out

Somewhere within her mind she runs for safety

He attacks, demands and crushes

Power is his aphrodisiac

He needs to feel her tremble with fear

She shows no feelings

Her screams go silent

He is done with her

Discards her violently

She waits till he is gone

Gets up and goes for help

She finds her life beginning again

as she walks out of the courtroom

He is done.

This is really powerful and the ending really shocked me but made me think of how disgraceful and sleezy these lawyers are that attack a women's private life in court when she accuses a man of rape and they make it look like it was her fault... I don't know how they sleep at night. It why many women don't come forward and that is sad.

I had a step father that was like this. It's down right amazing how you hit it right on the head. I think the poem will touch many souls. I like this write.

Cool, I like a poem that makes me think. I feel like you were dealing with a judge here since he has so much power and wants to see your fear. At first, I thought it was about abuse until you mentioned the court. Surprise endings are always good. Thanks for sharing.....wonderful.

This poem does a good job at making me feel a pit of fear and helplessness in my stomach. I'm glad it ends on a note of hope!
