Fire

Fire

A Poem by Chris Bighorse

I've never seen
Angry Fire,
the flames that lick
life out of flesh. I've never seen
the skeleton of a house,
where only a fireplace stands.

I've only seen
Prayer Fire,
the one that roars
a gentle tune with
the drumming
and singing Diné.

I've only seen
firefly sparks
dance with the stars
and disappear.

Excellent imagery! I really enjoyed the image and personification of the the fire in general, from licking life out of flesh, to just dancing in beauty with the stars. In addition, this poem also displays a message that you do not see fire as a evil symbol; you only see it as beauty.

So overall, it's a very nice and vivid poem, and I really liked it.

Thanks for sharing.

I went back looking for the earliest words I remember you posted . . . I didn't find the words I remembered. But these are worthy.
