Footsteps

Footsteps

A Poem by Chris Bighorse

I believe I've given you
more yesterdays than tomorrows,

have swept my ambitions
under the rug with dust
bunny dreams and pocket
change. It's not your fault.

Keep in mind, you found
my footprints near the edge
of your desire. That was too close.

Also, bear in mind, I've tiptoed
into your dreams upon your request,
leaving behind beads of water
within my tracks so there's
no mistake. Unfortunately,

in calculating my trajectory,
you found out I want you.
I wanted to love you, too.

I love the first part of your first line. "I believe I've given you
more yesterdays than tomorrows.."

I like that you set that section of the sentence off on its own.

Interesting piece on being vulnerable.

About
I am Navajo. My tribe does not call itself that, but the schools I've been to have called us such and the name has stayed. So, to you, I am Navajo. To me, I am Chris. Hopefully, in getting to know.. more..
