Friendship

Friendship

A Poem by cbarnes

As fragile as a snowflake

Or as strong as roots

It doesn't matter how well you think you know someone

Because you think you know them

Everyone has two faces

And you never know what it takes to bring out the one that's hidden and locked up

But once it's out you will never see that person the same again

It haunts you

It eats at you

And you have this void

This unfillable space they once filled but now they can't

They hurt you to the point of breaking

So many years gone

So many memories

And wondering if they were genuine

They say you know who your real friends are when the going gets though,

They say the tough get going,

But maybe, just maybe,

The tough stick it out rain or shine

And maybe the weak get going

Because it's sometimes easier to turn away and not look back or think twice,

Then to be the shoulder that's being cried on

Sometimes it's easier to drop the weight you helped carry

Sometimes it's easier not to hurt with someone you once would lay your life down for and not think twice

Maybe you just wanted to go the easier route regardless of who you hurt in the process

Because a real, genuine, friend would let me cry and get snot on their shoulder and help me life my burden and walk with me through it

I love this! I especially love "Everyone has two faces/And you never know what it takes to bring out the one that's hidden and locked up" Very deep. I like how you explain that there is just no way of winning with people. If you don't discover their "second personality", you will feel locked out, but if you do, you won't see that person the same again... Deep... Keep writing!
