Anxiety

My constant torturer. 

Lurking just out of reach,

Feeding off every negative thought.

Choking me with my own words.

I pray for a breath, 

A breath without pain.

I bow down to you in fear.

This is no longer my body.

Who is that creature staring back?

Sunken cheeks and dark eyes.

Eyes of something no longer living.

Slowly dying, wasting away.

Definitely the best description I've read of anxiety. There's another good one here describing an anxiety attack (pardon my forgetfulness, I can't say who wrote it), but that's quite a bit different than the everyday variety of anxiety that chokes the life out of a life. "A breath without pain" . . . anyone who hasn't experienced it, cannot appreciate how psychic pain can be just as debilitating as physical pain. Great message to spread the understanding.

It is a painful thing to live with and my little sister has it more constant than I do and I can't imagine how she handles it!
