John Tamerlane

John Tamerlane

A Chapter by Wanderlustful

JOHN TAMERLANE

Fireworks were heard right outside the home
Young man of twenty one throttled outside
Men of duty had their weapons at his nose
Accusing him of a crime that happened two weeks ago

He was indeed John Tamerlane
Was at the wrong time and wrong place
For his faith he was condemned
For his race he would be good as dead

He was to be arrested, there ain't no doubt
The cops had the handcuffs, they slammed him right down
Shoved him in the car, they drove too far
His rights weren't even read, tell me is this fair?

This was what happened to John Tamerlane
The first time he came to this place with that name
People gave him glares from the minute he stepped
On the green grass of home that was about to go ablaze

Clearly that was an act he coulda never done
But because of what he looked like, he was going, going gone
Nevermind that he wasn't the one
The public was happy and so were the cops

Years and years had passed and justice was slow
Slow as a turtle that was made to run the road
His shell cracked, evidence whacked, everything mishap
They pinned the whole thing on an innocent chap

They were great at creating them stories
A little bit of action a whole lot of gory
The citizens believed it all, chomped it and bit
They ate the story up like it was a breakfast biscuit

We now know the fate of John Tamerlane
Wrongfully accused, wrongfully shamed
Thrown in a jail cell though he was never a sinner
Would anybody care and stand up for the true winner?

We also know that society's a mess
We know it's fabricated no more no less
So I sing this song til I see him free
I will scream this poem til I see John Tamerlane back on the street.
