After This…More

After This…More

A Poem by catwriter
"

Watching a film about the life of Emily Dickinson while horribly ill - this came out.

"

After This…More

And when the end of this one comes

I hope I am content.

I hope I've loved and lived enough

To feel my years well spent.

I hope I don't shrink back in fear

Of all that lies before.

But rather trust what's waiting there

Is simply more and more.

For all I've done or haven't

Regret will not avail.

So let my will be strong enough

To lift that mystic veil.

And if I fade into the stars

Never to return

Know that I've loved and lived enough,

Once as a sun that burned.

Once as a leaf upon the grass,

Once as a lonely whale,

Once a mountain worn to ash,

A bird upon a sail.

And all these lives continuous

As all of time runs on

It's only the love within us

That takes our life beyond.

Excellent rhyming and philosophy here. All biographies end the same way, so dreading it is a waste of time. The last lines suggest a belief in reincarnation. I am a man of few certainties, so all I can say is maybe, maybe not.
