The boy and his beast.

The boy and his beast.

A Story by Kyra Evalice
"

A short story of a boy and his beast, and the way it tore his life apart.

"
One day a boy opened his mouth and out crawled a beast; a beast of words and sounds and sadness, and all the people ran away.

Now the beast wasn't his fault, and he wished it would just go away. But even when others didn't see it, it was always there.

And sometimes it was smaller than the day before, or much larger in size. He had no control over it, and it no control over him.

Yet it plagued him day by day, and people told him to just tell it to go away. He said he tried and it didn't listen, they shook their heads and sighed.

Each day the people grew distant, and he kept his head down in class. For every time he opened his mouth out would come the beast.

Slowly he stopped talking, for fear the creature would drive away all those he called friend.

And everyone talked around him, made assumptions and jokes and told him what to do so the beast would not return.

It didn't help to keep his mouth closed, the beast was always very near it sat on his heart and weighed him down.

His parent sent him to people, told him it would help to tell them all his troubles to let them all spill out.

To him it seemed as if no one understood, what it felt like to have the weight on their chest and the beast hiding in their head.

Till one day he couldn't take it and let out a scream so big he thought the whole world would hear, and everyone turned to see him and the beast did reappear.

He cried out and sobbed his body shook as the beast overtook him, and he became a small ball in  a giant confusion.

But something broke through the words and sounds and sadness and took his hand, pulling him from the depths.

A boy stood before him, with tired eyes and a small smile behind him stood a beast much like his own; made of agony and noise and speech.

This beast was unlike his in one way, it was smaller and sat on the boys shoulders and stared at the world through wide wandering eyes.

Stranger soon became friends, the boys with beasts sitting on their shoulders.

Author's Note

Kyra Evalice
This was a short story/poem that I thought up while at work inspired by the youtube video "To this Day" it's a story of a certain emotion that can overtake a person. If you have a critique or a better way to end it I would be happy to hear as I find it hard to describe how depression is like as it becomes less of an issue even though I went through it myself.
