Guilt

Guilt

Toy soldiers, in straight lines
In yesterdays we left behind
Childhood dreams, innocent designs
Of a peace I cannot find
Hidden in my mind.

Hide and seek in a cornsilk maze
Kaleidoscopes of golden haze
Lazy, sun-filled, summer days
Where a carefree child endlessly plays
In that bright land where happiness stays.

Parts of me have died, unknown
Sightless eyes that cried, alone
Diamonds of hope amongst grief sown
Through the years in tears still shone
Clay pieces, broken, though cast in stone,
Prayers uttered in monotone,
Flesh become as dry as bone,
My soul echoing my spirit's groan,
Respite, respite, comes the low moan,
But Mercy upon white wings has flown
Leaving me in the darkness to atone
For all the sins I call my own.

I loved the way you rhymed in this one but the light to dark is what makes this amazing short, clean and something we all can grasp.

two halves of a life...the one we live with reckless abandon and innocence...

the other in which we pay for the mistakes we made in the first half of life, the ones who have become cynical and all together too smart about life.
