Buy Me

Buy Me

A Poem by Cat

I recall the first time I saw you,
standing there dressed in green.
I always knew you had an affair with money,
but never knew how you dealt with me.
I remember how you used to buy every last bit of me,
and how I thought it was sophisticated, sweet.
You had called me classic,
lying there in that King style suite.
I gave myself to you without asking for a return.
You tore me apart, disguised in pure gold.
But that was "none of your concern."
Now I understand it's how you were raised,
and to you it may be right.
But I'm not a prostitute, mister,
I'll be around longer than a night.

A cool and sassy kind of piece, compact and neatly mustered. There is a smoky, decadent sexuality to it, mixed with real feeling and understanding. Glamour combined with money is sexy, of course, to any warm-blooded human being but the superficiality and transience of it is brought out here with a punchy clarity.

Thank you, I really appreciate the insight!
There are some who think that they can buy anything. And others who unfortunately will prove them right.

I was pleased, perhaps excited by the BUY ME words.
Having read your poem I am just as pleased, more, to find that
you are not for sale.
Great poem, excellent writing.

Thank you very much.
Perfect ending to a honest and direct poem.
"But I'm not a prostitute, mister,
I'll be around longer than a night."
Some people believe everyone can be bought or tricked. Good to turn the table or run like hell. Thank you Cat for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome.
This is very well done, Cat. A truly powerful and inspiring piece that throws a jab right at the jaw of the sex industry. I love this. You have a lot of talent and a lot of heart and you put it on display in this piece. This is a subject very dear to my heart and clearly is to yours. It was an honor to read this. Keep writing! I look forward to reading some more of your work!

Thank you so much for the review!! :)
Those who believe people can be purchased are not the sort of people I would want to be around. They do not understand kindness or caring. They are incapable of love. Your poem says it well. Lydi**

there are those who will continue to 'buy' what they can in terms of 'love'... we really do need to change this cycle and it has to start with educating our boys to respect women and our girls to never 'sell' themselves, no matter how great an offer sounds... one should be taught to love without a price...well-done, Cat
