How you can use your music as a weapon.

"

Have you ever heard of the quote, “music as a weapon?” I've just recently heard of this saying, it was the title of a concert I attended over the weekend. The more I thought about the title; the more I realized that music is used in this manner. These words can strike fear, or persuade happiness. This all depends on how you pursue the music you listen to. A few ways people may use music are to get through hardship, to create unity, or to start a rebellion. These are just a few ways to you can translate the words "music as a weapon."

Every person has a hardship in their life, at one point or another. This can range from a break up, to losing a job, to a death. I know whenever I'm upset from one of these dreadful incidents, I need to listen to comfort music. Not all music is good for such occurrences. For example, if you just had a break up, I wouldn't suggest listening to a love song. No matter how tough life gets, there will always be a song that will be able to lift your spirits. This is one of the meanings behind "music as a weapon."

Unity is the second way people use music as a weapon. Music can bring people together from different races, religions, and cultures. I've had experiences with this concept every year for the past six years. Going to conventions, clubs, and concerts have really opened my eyes to the music world. For example, when I'm at a convention, and a specific song comes on, such as Caramelldansen (Japanese anime song), and everyone in the room stops and starts dancing to it; that's when you know everyone in the room is truly united. Sharing a common interest is a way to make new friends, and it will open more opportunities for you.

The final way you can use music as a weapon is by rebellion. One way to rebel is to have a protest. Protesting isn't just made up of signs and yelling; there is also music involved. Putting these things in effect, helps to get a good point across. The song "We Shall Not Be Moved" for example, could be associated with protesting. This song talks about people not moving from their post, till they get what they know is right. Using music during a rebellion puts a lasting mark on a person; better than yelling would.

Hardship, unity, and rebellion are just a few ways you can express music as a weapon. There are many other ways you can interpret this quote, but these are the main ones I know of. I'll keep thinking about the title; and will continue to use my music as a weapon. The question is, “How will you use your music as a weapon?”
