If...

If...

A Poem by castargirl

If freedom is supposed to be great,

why isn't it always given?

If racism is wrong and unjust,

why does it happen?

If marriage is supposed to last forever,

why is divorce an option?

If music is supposed to inspire,

why do some lyrics mean nothing?

If material things don't matter,

why do we want them?

If beauty comes from within,

why do we work so hard on our appearence?

If people say they don't care,

why do they bother listening?

If family is what really matters,

why are some not even speaking?

If someone says they love you,

why would you question it?

If trust can be broken,

why is it given so freely?

Oah... this makes my heart hurt. But that means it affected me, which is what poetry is meant to do. So well done there.

These are haunting, painful questions. Leaving every single one unanswered creates that void, frustrated feeling that, somehow, can inspire change. It's almost a psychological poem--by bringing these questions to front of the reader's mind, they are forced to think about them.

"If family is what really matters,
why are some not even speaking?"

So true. So sad. Well done.
