Pretty GirlA Story by Cassy SandowLet us talk about something important. This is going to be
the scariest conversation of your life, and hopefully one day you can remember
my words of wisdom and be thankful. You are going to fall in love one day. And maybe you’ve been
looking forward to this since the first day you watched one of the classic,
Disney Princess movies; or since the first day you asked your mom when she met
your father. But now it is your turn. One thing that no person in this world will willingly tell
you: it is going to hurt like hell. But it is going to be so damn beautiful. Your brain is going to get in the way of your heart … that
is what the world wants you to think. But remember to think logically and to
keep a level head even when the organ that keeps you breathing tries to take on
a mind of its own. I hope he looks at you and sees the world, and I hope you
look right back and see your soul’s counterpart. I hope your smile never fades
so long as he is around and I pray that your hair continues to stand up on your
arms every time he grazes your skin. You will find that you fit perfectly into him. When you are
under the covers, the curves of your body will be filled just right by his. His
hand, rough with callus will slide into yours and you will feel safe. Your heart is going to be happy. So blissfully unaware of
pain and disaster; people will envy you. I will envy you. Remember a few things, pretty girl: do not lose yourself.
Learn how to cry on your own and how to bandage your own wounds before you let
him take over for you. Hold your own hand when you are scared and become
acquainted with the sound of your own heartbeat. Be strong, be independent;
tread on your own before he comes to pull you out of the water. When you learn yourself inside and out, you will fall madly
in love with the beauty that is you. Then, he will too. Pretty girl, I am telling you this because no one told me. Do
not be afraid to be alone, but allow yourself to let someone in. It will be
okay, pretty girl. © 2016 Cassy Sandow |
