Contradictions

Contradictions

A Poem by Cassy Sandow

Well bud, we just have to make it through these next four years then it is off to college and freedom and parties.

Well bud, you might not get into that school, you’re not exactly what they are looking for.

Well bud, just apply anyway.

Well kid, the last 4 years went fast, and these next 4 years are going to fly by, so you better keep your eyes wide open and don’t f**k it up.

Well kid, you better study and pay attention and get good grades.

Well kid, don’t forget to make new friends and go out and have fun but if a cute boy offers you a drink don’t you dare take it because it is probably drugged.

Well baby girl, you best stop giving all of these low lives your attention and find a real man who will love you and support you.

Well baby girl, school comes first, I don’t know why you’re even thinking about a man right now.

Well baby girl, you know you can’t afford to have one of your own right now so you better keep those legs closed but here are some condoms just incase.

Well ladies, we graduate tomorrow, who would have thought we could have made it.

Well ladies, how about one more cheers before reality sets in?

Well Ma’am, you’re in a bit over your head here. Didn’t you know this would happen?

Well Ma’am, you’re 60,000$ in debt and you have to keep paying it off, so you better keep working.

Well Ma’am, your husband has debt of his own, I’m not sure the house is in your range right now.

Well Hun, I think you need to take some time off because the baby will need you and the house will need tending to and I will not stand for absentee parents in this family.

Well Hun, I know you love what you do and it is going to be tight around here but we can make this work.

Well Hun, I know we both have degrees and we are both parents but I can’t just drop everything to stay home.

Well baby, you better sleep through the night and try not to puke all over daddy when he comes home and please try not to scream when your aunts hold you.

Well baby, try to make some friends today and share your toys but don’t let them be mean to you.

Well baby, of course you can sign up for the soccer team but you need to work your a*s off and keep healthy but don’t forget to do your homework.

Well bud, you just have to get through these next four years then it is off to college and freedom and parties.

Half of what I write is an inner thought stream of bullshit. But it comes from the heart. I write informally because I've had too many years of professors telling me how to write. I am inspired by m.. more..
