This Dark Day

In March, two of my friends lost people that they were super close to. And I wasn't quite sure how to help them. So I wrote them a poem.

You

Can’t

Breathe

It gets caught in your chest

Won’t go in

Won’t come out

You 

Can’t

Think

Without everything hurting

On the inside

And the out

You 

Can’t

Blink

Without seeing that face

You used to know so well

You won’t forget

You 

Can’t 

Move

Without feeling their touch

As you said your hellos

And your good-byes

You 

Can’t 

Run

But it’s all you want

All you can think about

As you cry

You

Can’t

Fight

That feeling of dread

That terrible sickness

That makes you feel dead

You 

Can’t

Cope

With all that’s happened

You need a friend

A shoulder to cry

I 

Can’t 

Know

These emotions you’re feeling

The thoughts you think

Things you saw

I 

Can’t

Say

How sorry I am

That I can’t help you through

This dark day
