Moments

Moments

A Poem by Chris Shaw

watch sunbeams play on water

with laughter in their eyes

remember little children

the ones that don’t survive

my arms reach out to hug them

too soon those moments gone

a cloud has drifted in the way

and blocked out all the sun

Reflections of things that bring a smile are often tempered with life's realities Chris and as we know, clouds darken even the brightest of days, which surprisingly today is one. It is often strange to be needing sunglasses in February, but I can live with that kind of glitch in the matrix.
Cherish the sunny moments while you can, as Lord knows how rare they are amongst the clouds.

Dear Chris, perhaps a fleeting moment of sadness remembering someone who drowned in the water, a small child….the laughter of splashing against a cloud passing buy, a sad notion on an otherwise normal day …mementoes like that bring tears…..and perhaps a laugh or two….mixed emotions

This one has the sound of grief, but there are no specifics. The poem seems to urge us to value our little ones because they can be taken from us in a moment. The last two lines may indicate the loss of a real child close to the writer.

"The ones that don't survive", reads with greater sadness; in the context of children being referenced. After all, they remain so very vulnerable; in so many ways.

It feels as if the writer, has a longing to hug and show fondness to children; but they are sadly no more.

A "cloud" bars the sunlight, as this writer seems blocked from expressing her fondness and care for those absent children.

When I first read this, it brought to mind the numerous child victims of natural disasters; such as floods etc. And, the grieving mothers; trying to cope with sadness in their eyes. Also, little more than fond memories of past tender moments; to help console them.
