Rise and Shine

Rise and Shine

A Poem by Chris Shaw

in the throes
of January shadows
admire the simplicity
of a blackbird perched
on a limb of silver birch

a songbird whose
sweet notes pour forth
from its tiny fragile throat
to greet my morning

where brushwood twigs
suspended in fine tangles
sweep the sunshine air
bedraggled like bedroom hair
night time beguiling

has made early hours
lighter and brighter
my window eyes smiling

Ah yes, Silver Linings! This takes me back to childhood :)
... "Rise and shine," were the first words I heard every morning, from my mother :)

Thank you so much Dylan. My mum used to say rise and shine too.

.........🙂
I really enjoyed this poem
It reminds me of our snowy Saturday
Then a bright sunny Sunday that showed off the brilliant snowed behind and the birds coming to feed in my yard.

Lovely poem

If only synchronise their singing until a bit later in the morning when I'm awake, I could stop opening the window and throwing boots at them, then hop one booted to retrieve it! 😃
Or even synch with sunrise would be a help, but no...off they go like car alarms at 4 am when sunrise doesn't get out of bed until well after 8 these days!
But it is far nicer than hearing one that's just been introduced to a cats jaws... No delicate chirps and tweets then, I can tell ya!
Suppose that's the difference between living in a chocolate box painting over a forest where the rule of law is kill or be killed.
Well, I did warn the postie not to be late again...May he rest in peace!
😃

Oh Lorry, you will have to wear ear muffs so you can get a lie in. Have a great day.

Blackbirds are beautiful in their own unique way. We have had crows in our yard this winter because my mom feeds them squirrels and birds. They are stunning when the sunlight hits them
