Casting Out The Shadows

Casting Out The Shadows

A Poem by Chris Shaw

i do not fear the darkness
though i much prefer the light
while moonshine mid the scattered stars
are friends i meet by night

the sun’s rays on the garden
are a wonder to behold
dispelling all the gloom of shade
replacing it with gold

yet the flickering of candles
as they drip their life away
will usher in a peace of mind
whatever time of day

so surely what we seek the most
is a life of harmony
with those who hold us in their hearts
our friends and family

To the dearest Chris. Hope you are doing great. People are haunting me in dreams, that too they are fellow indians, i feel disgrace to them. They are like backstabbing me as they cant face me,
anyhow, i love and being loved by me is my whole purpose of my life and birth. He is really a God, his nature every other men envies,a dream boy to.women, for few he is like hot cake. For his caring heart, yielding everything of his' people wants to have him in their life as he is very soft and just listens, because most of men are like controlling, dominating, need women for social reason or either on bed. But he just cares truly from heart. A man such is like a kid, is more often missused by many for their advantage. I adore him, he knows.me very well. I dont hurt him and never taken advantage, he cares and adores me back as the lines you mentioned about sun, for the harmony they want to hav in their life

Loving you , 💙
Jessy jacob💙

The various shadows of life and how the poetess relates to them is insightfully inked in this very refreshing and original write. I love how the poetess sees the beauty of the night, not visible during the brightness of the day and is equally comfortable in either day or night time. So pleased to read of your love of candles, Chris. I too, love candles and the relaxed light they bring to evening time. They give their lives to bring light to ours. Wondrous thought! The final verse is the icing on the poetic cake for me, Chris. It speaks volumes about the necessities of life which truly are very few: Family, Friends, Harmony, Love. I truly LOVE this poem, beautiful in its simplicity. Thank you for sharing, Chris. It made my day so special to read it...

well done .. very fine rhyming and rhythming :) ahhhhhhhh the sunshine! i lived a long time in South Dakota where the winters can last from Oct.- March .. even April at times .. lots of grey days .. bitter cold and snow and always the wind ... those days of sunshine with temps the neared 30 were like being in Florida ;) wonderful uplifting read for me ma'am!

Peace, serenity, and yes, harmony runs through this, for me. The peace of the garden and the moonlight and stars...and those candles going out is a reminder that family and friends won't be here forever. We must enjoy those little things and those quiet visual things while we can.

The alternating and contrasting images of light and dark in this one are interesting. I can see death symbols in the dark ones, and death is not denied throughout the work. But the last verse cancels out all the negatives with an acknowledgment of those positives which matter most of all.

Yes, dear Chris...we do seek a life of harmony...a balance of light and dark, a mutual understanding, a life full of joy, some bumps along the road, yet those we cherish we keep in our hearts forever...a lovely rhyme Chris...soft , gentle, colorful, and my favorite is the candle, flickering unitl....( i have a collection of candles!)
