our birch is grieving i can see
it does not stand in majesty
and though the sky is cloudless blue
green leaves are trembling in the sun
its leaves are whispering it’s true
its heart is heavy what say you
do you see through nature’s eyes
nature doesn’t tell me lies
this birch is crying for a friend
a neighbour in our garden fair
today our cypress meets an end
today it shows more majesty
than all the living trees that stare
upon sad branches now laid bare
today awaits the cruelest fate
tomorrow gone it won’t be there
Fabulous Chris - the 'majesty' of trees is indeed a fitting subject for great Poetry. Poignant and moving ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Sad to read pity cast on trees and by trees, when we know they will go - possibly after or before we do. This was a spontaneous one, then. It works so well.

No apology necessary, Chris. Don't know whether this reply will get to you.
I think how it never gets easier but we get better at dealing with it. Over time we'd better accumulate tools to deal with nature, like a tree grows rings... shedding the bark may be painful but still a very important part of enduring the surroundings.
I've been drinking, so, I don't really know what this means or what I'm talking about.

So true and well said. The metaphor of the tree that tomorrow will be gone is a great one. The title or lack there of was well thought out. Another great write Chris

The birch shows such dignity in the face of mortality, standing so tall and majestic, shorn of its once regal crown of gold. That's how I imagine the tree, from your words, dear Chris. What a great lesson lies here for all of us, on the impermanence of earthly life, of all things of great glory. And like this birch, we must find beauty in acceptance and surrender.
Your words, as always, ring deep chords in my soul. They tell me of a poet who feels such spiritual oneness with Nature and brings her readers its lasting messages through beautiful symbolism and personification. I have no sufficient words to express my joy at reading your poetry again.
Sending you much love today!

Appx 85 years old, now felled and it has left a huge gap in our garden as well as my heart. On the positive side, there is more light and I have lovely memories of the 40 years it has been in my company. So pleased you are back with us. You have been missed.

those new empty spaces need not always be filled at least not immediately, if indeed ever .. and though they are invariably mourned, as in absent friends, kith, kin or trees even .. treasure where they had once been and the light they now surely leave behind them ..

We are going to utilize the lowest part of the trunk and turn it into a garden table. On the plus side, there is light where there hasn’t been light:) Lots of lovely memories. I appreciate you.
A very poignant poem which brings alive the birch as if we are looking at a dying person.... I am very attached to certain of our trees and when they look bare, it makes us sad, because we know time is short-lived for these beautiful creatures of nature....then they pass on...you wrote with such passion and sadness, which we all understand Chris...
