Cold Feet

Cold Feet

A Poem by Chris Shaw

oh the times I have contemplated
the picnic that never was

played it out in my imagination
felt the breeze tickling
my exposed toes in the heat
of summer sun
as we graced the green grass
of the Derbyshire dales

the invitation though was real
and I am sure if i had caught
the train as I planned to do
my cold feet would surely
have had an exquisite treat
on that blanket
as I feasted on you
and sipped chilled chablis

Chris - how many of us decry the missed opportunities life has afforded us? Getting older it's become a sad game, remembering many of the things I could or should have done. Thinking back to at least one time I could have changed my life forever. Yet? Would we, if we could?
Take care - Dave

Can be painful, mentally: having to think of something that will not, or may not, happen. In this case, didn't. More emotion from you. (Oh, and it's nice to read of Derbyshire dales; long time since I was there!)

A chance meeting never fulfilled. I've indeed had many of those and now play them out in my head, wondering how different things might be now had I followed my own 'picnic.' Funny how life tends to do that to us!

What chances are lost to us in foggy trepidation? But we can't rush in where angels fear to trod unless we are proving ourselves fools. In this case your imagined tryst might prove better than reality or memory. It made its way into poetry, after all. I enjoyed the read. F.

an uncorked masterpiece of verse. you've got it all going on here. such a picnic - all the superlatives would not fit in the basket. i doubt those feet will stay cold when cork flies.

Ah, if you take all the what could've beens you could make a daisy chain and have a real party picnic. We'll I could anyway. 😀
But hey, what do I know. I'm sitting in my penguin onesie eating dessert of mint choc chip soft scoop ice cream from the tub in my panda onesie, because I spilled soup over my penguin onesie at lunch! 😀
This probably happened before everyone had a phone in their pocket, before constant messaging, I mean instant messaging even existed.
Now it's impossible to lose track of someone, unless of course you tell them where the body is buried in the hope of a lighter sentence.
Ahh, the gold old happy days. I miss them! 😀
