Pie in An Endless Sky

Pie in An Endless Sky

A Poem by Chris Shaw

beyond this midnight starlit sky
where do we travel when we die
surmise away and dream it too
unanswered questions might come true
for certain what’s desired is peace
a sweet release from this world’s stain

is that too much to ask that we
in far off places do refrain
from all that causes others hurt
do not tattoo your views on me
i have two eyes and i can see
the measure of a loving heart

the measure of a quiet mind
where I can seek out common ground
to find the stuff that strengthens love
where kindness is a rule for all
where thoughts of evil dissipate
and hate becomes a word unknown.

often stated but remains meaningful to many "where do we travel when we die" - personally I ascribe to the thought that, "we are not bodies with a spirit, we are spirits with a body" - "we have this treasure in earthen vessels." When the vessel breaks the treasure is released. Love your thoughts and images and your apt description of paradise elements. - thanks for the post - carl

Interesting I've just been thinking and writing about this sort of thing. But I think you do it better.

It's okay not to have all the answers, I don't know anyone who does, including the Dalai Lama. But we know right from wrong if our heart is our guide and we can lean on the one while avoiding the other. A good tree doesn't grow rotten fruit or a rotten tree, good. We are all just vessels of the spirit. Good things come in all sorts of wrappings but we keep the gift and throw the papers and frills away. Maybe that's all the shedding of our skin is, the birth of something new, like a butterfly, unseen, being released from its cocoon. I like pie, myself.

The last stanza says so much…
I know I would love to have peace from overthinking and many other things. A world where the word hate doesn’t exist.

I enjoyed this poem but the last two stanzas spoke loud and clear to me and resonated with me on a deeper level.

Nicely expressed thoughts, makes you think again about things. Where we go from beyond is into the loving arms of God ;-}

I'm ok my friend, thank you ;-}
Now I want pie... key lime! Maybe chocolate cream... Locally we have a pizza place called "A Guy and His Pie," can't wait to try them...

Maybe the best we can do is tend our quiet little corners of the world, Lord knows it's the little everyday kindnesses that keep the ship afloat. Water the plants and watch them grow and all that. Anyways, all my best Chris

There is so much tp ponder about the Human Mind and Body.... it is Phenomenal. The Mystery sleeps and although we weep when Spirits pass to the Great Beyond... we may someday discover the Beauty of being Spirits that guide the broken Hearts along the Milky Way. Softly, Pat
