Snapshots of their Memory

Snapshots of their Memory

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Wishing all my poetry friends a wonderful Christmas. For those who don’t celebrate Christmas , my best wishes.

"
once upon a festive month
festooned for all the street to see
the fairy lights adorned a tree
and outside too the lamps were lit

this year the cheer is in the shade
the house is empty void of life
yet I recall the laughter when
those neighbours giddy in their prime
celebrated Christmas time
with friends and all their family

yet now their days have come and gone
no longer present is their song
though lovely in our minds we hold
the snapshots of their memory

This reminds me of our old Christmases in Lockport...
It really meant something then...and there was something peaceful about the snow lightly falling...and driving around looking at all the decorations....oooing and ahhing...as kids.
Yes, the memories are so important now.
All the family and friends from then who are gone still live within our hearts.

Your review is filled with nostalgia j. Lockport must have been rather special. Thank you my friend .. read more
That is what we all become Chris, a more and more vague memory, until those that remember us diminish in numbers until we become the vaguest of memories ourself.
And on that cheery note, I shall wish you a merry commercial exploitation of a once meaningful occasion and a happy turning of the calenders number, that we all pretend is the time for new beginnings and spending more than we actually have to spend, leading us into the never ending spiral of debt that will no doubt knock years off our own expiry date..... HO! HO! HO! 😊

Even for those without such memories, as long as the well-being of one's beloved and family is retained, I can see that being a Christmas experience already. To not be starved, evicted out of your home, rejected by others, doubted by their loved ones. One of the greatest Chrismas miracles these days is for Tragedies not occuring it seems. Wasted breathing, panting. For one not dying in the cold, alone, being abandoned by others, is that not enough? I suppose humans always seek the greatest available utility. That is, for the better.
A nice poem, I can see you've put your heart into it.
