Soft Touch

Soft Touch

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A little more brevity for a change

"
beneath surface skin
numerous layers reside
waiting to be hurt

I love the onion metaphor many poets seem drawn to, which I often encountered but seldom understood until recently. We might seem dense and sturdy, but it only takes a flicker to reveal the thin, transparent, and fragile layers that hold us all together. I wonder if the scarring on these layers causes them to become more resilient and tough, or thins them out into fragmental pieces of judgement.

Wonderful poem, but I expect nothing less from your brilliant mind, Chris.

wow... very brief but very intense. can definitely relate, sometimes pain feels more real that tenderness... but that's just my interpretation ☺

Indeed, there are so many layers to love and pain. Nicely done in few words. ~Jim

Well done Chris. The nail was truly hit on the flat top bit by I believe, a tool that goes by the name of hammer! 😊

Nothing wrong with a quick read. Many surfaces with many layers to humanity. All waiting to be hurt.

Good read.

Chris!
Hahaha! Like walking barefoot and encountering a sandspur! Ouch! Of course, it might be, "waiting for caresses."

Yet, the presence of a red rambling rose, offers bright petals to defend the human's heart, offsetting the thin of each human's skin!

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
