The Colour of Void

The Colour of Void

A Poem by Chris Shaw

what is this void
that plagues me so
an empty ache
that won’t let go

with age comes loss
too many gone
i’ve lost the base notes
from my song

and yet what’s missing
builds in strength
in width in depth
and also length

in truth i guess
i grieve for me
that golden leaf fall
from my tree

you Chris are now the base note in the lives of others, you haven't lost anything but gained more maturity ..

The title drew me in.
Age does come with loss,
but so does life and living,
as you well know, I'm sure.

The title and the words are great.

Thank you, Chris...
I do understand this poem.

This year I lost my baby sister and good friends. Life teaches us. We must make time for friends and the family. A outstanding poem my dear friend.

Morning Christine, hope you have your thermals on:)
This brings to mind memories of mums last few months with constant illness having her clinging to life until her will to live finally gave way and like the last leaf she let go...
Beautifully written.
Hope you are well.

I understand your sense of loss and I also really love and appreciate how every loss has left you with such beauty, wisdom, depth and understanding. A very beautifully worded poem, dear Chris. The golden leaves keep falling with every season... yes I relate totally to this....The color of void is an awesome poem title.

You're most welcome, my friend.
Aging is truly brutal--especially when you cross the threshold from when life gives you things to when life begins to take them away, one by one. I have always thought aging should be a crime against nature, and so should death. Death is not natural at all--it's the result of sin, and all that that entails. This poem is very good--like capturing a sharp sigh from being punched in the solar plexus.
