Grey Day Whispers

Grey Day Whispers

A Poem by Chris Shaw

cloudy mornings offer comfort
cosy like a shawl warms shoulders
while the regal swans are swimming
gone the minutes i grow older
let me saunter where I wish to
freedom is a precious gift

away from all the ties of living
here i breathe in fresh air crispness
drear the rippled surface misty
ghosts come calling drifting nearer
veils like trails that swirl and sashay
out they are to spook my day

leave me be i am not ready
mellow autumn yellow ochres
round the margins sit a necklace
on the edge of cold grey waters
little boats of many colours
fallen leaves from weary trees

Dear Chris,

The clouds make us appreciate the sunshine even better. One is blessed to breathe in the fresh, free air. I loved the ethereal imagery used throughout the poem. And yes, we're not ready to join those loving ghosts, yet. There's so much more to accomplish yet. But its a comfort knowing they wait....I loved this poem.

what cold imagery and yet it has to be.... there is always something good to be found in not so good days.

Sounds beautiful. Watch out for those swans. They're very territorial. Geese and swans are like that. Ducks are laid back and cool in comparison. I positively loved the closing verse. Lovely work.

Love the images that flow through your words. Feel the fog roll in as the leaves fall upon the ground, swirling all around the weary trees ;-} Favorite Poem.

I really like the last stanza--comparing fallen leaves to little boats of many colors. For some reason that image clicked in my mind immediately--I've seen that in real life, on days when I went fishing.
