Fair and Foul

Fair and Foul

A Poem by Chris Shaw

witness
a young woman
educated in hate
whose finely chiseled looks
are drop dead gorgeous

until she speaks

when that full kissable
pout opens
to an estuary of abuse

a torrent of profanity
gushes forth
spouting excrement

how her features morph
contort to ugly

her dark eyes violent
her lips spit bullets of venom
ice crystals splinter
in her frozen heart
as she celebrates

death and torture
of innocent civilians

without an iota
of compassion nor a
tear of remorse
while poison courses her veins

a cancer unchecked
planted and nurtured
in her creator’s
fractured garden

In America we refer to these types of women as "Karen". Mix an attitude of entitlement, lack of respect, and self awareness with alcohol and it's always a good time. Unfortunately, these people tend to breed and this attitude/disposition gets taught to the children at too young an age to give them a real chance at not being horrible adults... and the cycle begins again. It's really just different variations of borderline personality disorder in my opinion.

Dear Chris,
The change of persona of the young lady is so dramatic here. How hate contorts her attractive features into grotesque. Your words are enough reason to be convinced about the dark power of hatred. There's little hope for redemption when such hate abounds in hearts.

"ice crystals splinter
in her frozen heart"

I loved those lines. Such breathtaking imagery!

This kind of nasty character is emerging everywhere in our world as we course through these violent, uncertain days. There is nothing like war and opposing sides to bring out the true nature of people. There is such hatred and hypocritical thoughts being thrown around and as you have written, the worst of it comes from the mouths and minds of those we least expected it from. Some humans are just so good at hiding the nastiness they store deeply within. Some excellent lines here that call such people out for the truth of what they reveal themselves to be.

This one impresses as a reaction to a real person. It also hints of the current middle east war. It's amazing what extreme events can draw forth from people. Dr. Goebbels knew of this weakness and capitalized on it.

Oh, that kind of fair, as in, fair maiden! I was pondering the woes of those with proverbially “unclean lips” just this week and this excellent poem brings my thoughts full circle. Thanks Chris!
