When Words Bleed

When Words Bleed

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Inspired

"
not since those final words
in Chidiock Tichborne’s elegy
read so many moons ago
a traitor or a martyr
take your pick

penned prior to his youthful demise
have these eyes of mine
suffered so
a water well busted by a hit

let me tell you this
tears dripped unrestrained
a poem penetrated tissue
of resistant pain

words pierced chamber walls
to make their mark

a poem adrift from all others
writ
touched every fibre of a would
be poet’s heart

I've always admired your wit and delivery. Images piercing all the way. Great title.

Thank you duff. I appreciate you. All the best.

Poetry begets poetry and poets are a sort of lighthouse in the distance whose light beckons those adrift to head for shore and keep the flame from failing yet another day. This is kind of an anthem that fastens after the piercing is done, branding the poet ever after. Thanks Chris. Some strong 'wine' here.

Many thanks Freds for your thoughts. An appreciated visit.

thanks ever so much Chris for the gentle spur to return and read works I had not thought of, and likely would not have reread, if not for your inspired verse.

Tich's elegy has the laser focus of life and death about to intersect. An accompanying work is Thomas Kyd's rebuttal, which is not as razor-honed, but one I remember reading and comparing oh so many moons ago.

Hope all is well.

A sixteen century poet who knew nothing of Politics... However, today our Leaders plot to destroy all our Country has done to be the shining light... and now poetry is our only Hope to persuade others to ponder how we can repair the damage done. We have witnessed Miracles...
and perhaps we will work together to enjoy the resources of our Country... as other Countries join "United we stand; divided we fall".

I take exception to “would be” poet.
This poet would be accurate.
