When Words Bleed

When Words Bleed

A Poem by Chris Shaw

not since those final words
in Chidiock Tichborne’s elegy
read so many moons ago
a traitor or a martyr
take your pick

penned prior to his youthful demise
have these eyes of mine
suffered so
a water well busted by a hit

let me tell you this
tears dripped unrestrained
a poem penetrated tissue
of resistant pain

words pierced chamber walls
to make their mark

a poem adrift from all others
writ
touched every fibre of a would
be poet’s heart

Dear Chris, You pack such emotion in those few, powerful words. Chidiock Tichborne...How strong the impact that poet left on you...with his words and his life story. There are those whose words contribute to shaping us, leave a profound impact on our budding, impressionable minds and he was one of them. I read him today and was so touched, myself. There's something tragic beyond words when a young life is lost. Thank you for this beautiful and unforgettable poem.

The glass is full, and now the glass is run,
And now I live, and now my life is done.
This is just a beautiful tragic tribute to a great tragic piece. Touching and intelligent in the extreme.

Dear Chris

Firstly, I'd never heard of Chidiock Tichborne before. Google told me about him, so thank you for bringing that knowing to me. Something I hadn't known before. Well written, and I can sense greatly your absolute passion for this poet. Well done!
