Unwavering

Unwavering

A Poem by Chris Shaw

at times I hear her calling
where the foam of tides is lapping
where the seagulls hover daily
where my thoughts go gently sailing
to that black rock in the sea
there is calm upon the waters
and the silver threads in moonlight
cast a sheen upon the surface
it’s a place of perfect safety
so I drift there when I hear her
when her voice is heard in whispers
and I know that in her presence
there is peace and harmony

I am more a person that is drawn to the woods than the sea but I do see the appeal of it for those that live nearby it. Everyone has their own special place that calls to them and the sea certainly appears to call to you. In this increasingly erratic world any place that gives one peace and harmony must be cherished. If the sea could read it would be very proud of this ode written on its behalf. Some lovely description.

Such longing in this poem. A desire for solace, and the memory of someone lost. It was a great pleasure to read, as it struck such a note of melancholy.

Water seems to be on your mind. A common thread in your poetry as I think back on them. At least the ones I've read. I'm wondering if 'she' is nature or the planet? Or maybe who is calling is you and it's an echo you hear in your head? Serenity is what you said in this poetic thread as I in your words tread.

Loving memory and tranquil waters will steady the ship. Hold tight through the storms and a warm sun shall guide us. They are never gone. That voice always there. Great job Chris.

Nothing is quite so soothing as the pulse of the ocean, her sighing voice whispering to our hearts like an infant in the womb. We are born of blood and water to this world but we may feel the longing and belonging to another world as well; a world where primordial seas rock us gently to sleep in the arms of eternity. This poem speaks to me of such a feeling. I have known it before, falling asleep by the side of the ocean while waves push and pull my conscience out into the tide. It is written in scripture that there are three things on earth that testify to the truth; the Spirit, the water and the blood and three things in heaven that testify; the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit and these three are One. It is not a great leap of understanding then that we feel an eternal kinship with the water from which we came and still composes sixty percent of our physical being. This was a pleasant read. I enjoyed.

The black rock may be an actual natural formation, but it could also symbolize something. The word picture of it is beautiful either way. It is a place of peace, where the troubles of the world do not insinuate themselves. The speaker referred to is not named, but I feel it is someone close to the speaker, who may or may not be in this world. A lovely, soothing piece here.
