Jahkai brings sunshine
it’s his way
he adds value to many
a could be better day
he’s only three
but he’s the bees knees
to me
so when the phone rings
and he says hello nanny
it’s me and he tells me
that he’s been feeding
the quacking ducks
while listening to birds
singing from their house
in the trees
with a see you soon
I love you like ice-cream
I know he already has
the makings of a poet
... Or he knows how to butter you up enough to get more treats from you 😊
Kids eh? They do have a talent for just cutting to the point. It's such a pity that saying things as they are will be frowned upon soon, but while he's young, he can just say things like "that tastes disgusting" without worrying about the cooks hurt feelings or worrying about how much ice cream costs, when he has his nan to treat him 😊

I'm still wishing I'd said it, as my gran bought her the biggest box of chocs I've ever seen. 😊
She did share them though, or as I put it, recycled the ones she didn't like.

He's in the best time of his life with the best nanny. Innocence is often jaded through life experience. Someday he'll share his intelligent thoughts through poetry instead of depression or violence. Good one, Chris.

Hi Chris, your poem has captured the precious nature of your little grandson, a child, wide-eyed and curious about the world and sensitive to it. A budding poet.

Children are poets and some of us loose this ability rather than gain it in a world that has no time to listen. This poem gave the feel of innocence and I could hear my grand children in it. There is nothing like children to make one feel young again and bring out the poetry that lays buried under layers of years of learning.

Poetry and ice cream, a perfect balmy evening combination.
Blessings to you and Jahkai Chris. Grandchildren are a wonderful gift, including my Charlie, there are five in total in our family now and mum and dad adore, (and spoil,) them all.

Your poem is a beautiful celebration of childhood innocence and the way that children have a natural talent for bringing light and joy into the world. I loved the way that you used vivid imagery and powerful language to convey the idea that Jahkai is able to bring sunshine into the lives of those around him, and that his presence is able to make even the most difficult days feel a little bit brighter. Your poem also beautifully captures the idea that even at the age of three, Jahkai has a natural talent for poetry and is able to see the beauty in the world around him. Your words are a beautiful reminder of the power of childhood innocence and the way that it has the ability to transform the world around us.

Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
