Bake Day Beth

Bake Day Beth

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(a blessing or a curse)

"
our kitchen smiles when
Beth has a blitz on baking
whether it’s bread
biscuits or cakes
or some other experiment
in the making

an aroma permeates
that’s positively scrumptious
while the finished product
has us drooling and asking
for more

be sure not to notice
the chaos left in her wake
for goodness sake
comes later in the day
with clearing

is there a single utensil
left untouched
or a bowl or pan clean
of ingredients or
left over cooking

well is there

ah yes chris. almost as if sent from the angels this poem. ten yrs ago to the day my maternal grandmother passed. No one could bake like her. Fridays were her day of wonders. Pies, tarts, cakes, homemade bread. A day of gathering. Even in adulthood, all her grandchildren knew Friday was the day to visit. Sometimes thought the only reason we kept in touch was because of her call to our stomachs. This beautiful poem lightens an otherwise dark-tinged day of memory.

I doubt there is anything left over, as you portray this scrumptious desserts that come out of Beth's oven....and in my youth my grandmother baked cinnamon buns where the scent wafted all over her apartment....the cleaning up part of baking is always a chore and isn't even thought about until all the bowls, pans and flatware were used up..seems like she baked for a crowd....and who wants to clean up....
lovely memory Chris

This poem smells delicious with the aroma of home. It tantalizes with the fragrance of well made confectioners. Even reminds me of my wife at work whenever she has time for stuffs to bake. Hmnn. Yummy. A beautiful poem.

Hmm, I think I'd need a free sample to make a propellorly review! 😊
I tend to do the same, but at least I clear up as I go along, or else they'd be no clean utensils for the next batch, which is usually dependent on fridge or freezer space.
And the least said about Katie's last pancake day catastrophe the better. I swear I can still make our the splat on the ceiling though 😊
She does try though. A good review for her is "Well they're not burnt as much as last time 😊
On the plus side, she is on cooking duty until I'm fed up a bit more... I've lost nearly a stone! 😊
