Philadelphus

Philadelphus

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(mock orange)

"
mid june sees
mock orange
bountiful in bud
burst into a display
of perfectly profuse
pure white wonder

double flowered
heads hang heavy
each bloom perfumes
the giddy garden air
cascading from
arching branches
a bridal bouquet

not designed
to last more than
a few special days
fleeting before
its floral drift
in silent showers

a free fall
a teardrop demise
to carpet green grass
with confetti petals
a resounding echo
nothing of value
lasts forever

When I see petals strewn on the ground, I often think, "What a waste." So true, your concluding lines, nothing of value lasts forever, however hard we may wish it does. I feel such sadness in your words, dear Chris. Thank you for this beautiful poem.

Stunning words Chris of nature, rains that nourish, flowers that bloom, grasses stay green; "a floral drift" of magnificence ,but nothing lasts forever, and that's so true in nature. Vivid imagery make this a strikingly beautiful piece.
Best to you,

So many flowers come and go in the blink of an eye but those who are in the right place to witness them when they do come are the lucky ones. Your poem is a beautiful tribute to one of the magnificent blooms that grace our eyes for only a few days but they are a few days well worth it. Really nicely crafted Chris.

A good eye for detail i.e. comparing giddy garden air to a bridal bouquet.

Chris
You can encourage,mantain and protect.
Order to disorder in this cosmic reality has only one remedy.
Creativity.
Placing two or more parts together beautifully.
Nevertheless order returns.
Sad to see it go.
In its place poignant poetry.
lovely emotive imagery.

we relate to this
At this time of year mock orange blossoms dominate our back yard
it is too bad they don't last longer but they and their scent are worth waiting for
Enjoy your flowers
