Philadelphus

mid june sees
mock orange
bountiful in bud
burst into a display
of perfectly profuse
pure white wonder

double flowered
heads hang heavy
each bloom perfumes
the giddy garden air
cascading from
arching branches
a bridal bouquet

not designed
to last more than
a few special days
fleeting before
its floral drift
in silent showers

a free fall
a teardrop demise
to carpet green grass
with confetti petals
a resounding echo
nothing of value
lasts forever
