Yellow Is The Colour

Yellow Is The Colour

A Poem by Chris Shaw

little flower
when i look deep
into your open sunshine
petals

reminding me of butter
and all that is good
in life and worth the
celebrating

do you have any idea
how on a blue morning
you flood my mind with
memories

of happy and laughter
yet here you are alone
without company on a green
grass lawn

in your smallness
rising above all the rest
to catch a single falling
tear drop

I understand the above lives. I have many flowers, re-planted from my grandfather's yard. When they bloom, I can see his face and hear his voice. Thank you dear friend for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Chris , a nice little poem , of beauty and nature’s charm , I prefer a flower to a human , even if we become a robot race , the flowers will still grow , maybe a robot flower will appear , instead of plastic flowers , that you can talk with , hello my little flower , how are you today , yes I can see it
A garden full of talking robot flowers ,

There's a particular yellow flower that brings bittersweet memories to my mind as well, and this made me see it all too vividly while I was reading. This was so eloquent and beautiful even though it was also a little sad. Thank you for sharing this with everybody.

Wow Chris, it's no surprise as to why this is one of your more prominent poems. Your skillfully selected words paint a simple picture of a lonesome flower, yet manage to carry the weight of something bigger. Memories are what our personal stories are based on, if we lose them we lose a part of our humanity at its very core.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this. / O

This poem is as lovely as the dew drop tear sparkling on the little flower. There's a sea of emotion felt in your words, dear Chris. I read happy times, joyous memories and also sadness in your words and the little flower stood as a solid little reminder of all of it. It may be small in size but is so large in its stature, in your thoughts. I couldn't help thinking that some people are like that too. Kudos on this breathtakingly beautiful poem that moved every reader, so totally.

Thank you DIVYA and the very same to you and all mothers the world over. 🌸
The day after my stepfather died I was feeling so sad but I went about my business, running my business because in these cases I have no choice:( I wanted to go to my mom and just hold her and try to comfort her but I was stuck running the store:( But all at once I stopped what I was doing and planted flowers in my little boxes next to the store's front door. It was an act of defiance to my grieving:) So I did the opposite of your experience LOL But I so identify with what you said in this poem a single flower in a sea of green smiling up to you in defiance of grieving to remind you of the love that you shared and the joy that still remains!
