Hi Chris,
This is right up my street.
At first it appears just a simple verse, but for me, there is so much more inside.
Grief is indeed a debilitating emotion. Sometimes it makes you smile, sometimes it makes you cry, but mostly, it hurts like nothing on earth.

A clever comparison. Grief is very much as you described; it comes and goes and tugs on our heart strings and much like playing with a yo-yo, some handle grief better than others. And unlike the toy, grief never goes out of style. Smart senryu, Chris.

Grief does feel like a yo yo. It comes in waves and emotions flow . A spot on write as to how grief takes hold. ’grief blots out sunlight’ ‘wrings out heart and soul.. so true.

Your welcome.. :)
Grief is a current that keeps ebbing and flowing and I loved the comparison to a yo-yo. Up down, up down, it goes. It wrings out heart and soul, indeed, it just exhausts one's spirit. This senryu is such a beautiful and apt description of grief.
