Says The Muse

Says The Muse

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(erratic she is )

"
i’m with you
through the seasons
and all that they draw in
from the promise of a brand new year
to a snowdrop show in spring
through the blazing heat of summer burn
to the turn that comes with fall
with every golden leaf that drifts
or is whipped by a hostile squall

I’m with you
when the cracks appear
and the ice is far too thin
when the doubts of winter linger
as those shadows settle in
for that’s when strength is needed
i love you to your core
when your setbacks scar each working day
it’s then I love you more

I’m with you
when I’m idle
and my words are somewhat lean
it’s then I feel a certain guilt
when my conscience says I’m mean
but know i’ll not desert you
it’s just a short reprieve
and though my absence may be felt
in truth I’ll never leave

Even when I sit in front of my keyboard, fingers stretched out and floating above the keys not having any idea where to tap and what will come from it when I do, will you still be there then?????
This was fun Chris and I honestly believe that your muse is never very far away from you at all.

its impossible to knock her of the pedestal tho' isn't it Chris ..you just proved it, didn't you, with this little dedication .. yes indeed, forget the bass, its all about the muse ..

I came back to this one having noticed someone else's comment, not realizing I had read it before, but glad I did come back. Still one of your best without a single word misplaced. Truly outstanding.

I wish I could say she also lies! I truly do but in every stanza I believe you’ve described that Muse too perfectly. The most gracious of sleep’s or time’s disregard, nursing you with a single line and demanding that you rush or run, or simply keep a pen forever with you. Forget the page, write on your knees if you have to… I’m thinking how many poems have gone straight back to this Muse because I didn’t run or carry that pen, so in this poem I can relate and feel. Maybe not good but it makes me “feel“ and that’s what poetry is suppose to do; make you think on a deeper level so much so you do not realize you are thinking at all, so thank you Chris.

Arguments seem so insignificant in the vastness of lives lived together. And one might say they are the cement that fills the cracks, and if healthy, bring the drifting walk back to where it belongs ... together. I like the freestyle way of this poem as my mind walked your path.

One thing I notice about the most beautiful poetry is the description of natural things. Because to capture the beauty of the world around us is an incredible thing to do. To grab the art of wonderful things and put them into words and make people use their imagination, and feel things is what a poet is. Poetry is the most amazing form of art in my opinion, as we make text on paper, or on a computer screen come to life inside each person. This was a great example of the talent it takes to write great poetry. Love it!

I do remember you Sarah. Hello again :)
Creativity for most has always been defined by a feminine nature. Perhaps because instinctually women create life. It grows and is nurtured by them. They know love on a profound level. It is not a mystery to them. Because to have another heart literally growing and beating within you one has come to understand...the abundance of sacrifice required and demanded from the nature of love. For without you breathing that tiny heart ceases to exist. It is a creative process. A thing of poetry. CLE

in the olden days, everything was considered to be revalation. muses, gods, goddesses - that's why very early works are not signed. the artist was a channel, the real author was the muse. nowadays, we're left to our own devices, and must work for "inspiration," and it's not automatic. however, as your muse says in this poem, "i’ll not desert you."

just read a long article about the death of humanities departments at universities - literature is especially hard hit. what are we losing? with the humanities goes our humanity. i don't know if it's some sinister grand plan, or just laziness on our part, but we must seek to keep channels of communications with our muse open.
