Reaper of Rewards

Reaper of Rewards

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A spontaneous write

"
i taught my boys how to hug
told them they can be given
freely

said they feel snug
like a bug in a comfort cocoon
make the giver and receiver
feel wanted and loved

my eldest arrived last night
stood dwarfing me in the hall
arms wrapped tightly round my waist
in the warmest embrace

a minute passed by in silence
as his son stood waiting his turn
all three years of him looking on
as his brown eyes burned delight

you know it’s true about rewards
you reap in abundance what you sow
and more so it grows with the years

Indeed, you got more than double the blessings you sowed!
This is such a brilliant poem in its thought and expression! It touches upon so much about life.
Life is what you make of it. Someone said that and hit the nail on the head.
Kudos to you dear Chris!

This makes me smile. Warm and true. Good thing they didn't give you the elbow bump, would have ruined the mood. Heartfelt Chris!!!

lovely write Chris. Grandson seems to be the very patient type. Or just a keeper of thoughts: "hey dad, you had thirty years to do this, get on with it...I'm hungry for gran's affections :)

This is more a parable than anything else. It has a wonderful message and one more of us should pay attention to. We do reap what we sow.

I love this. Having had a cold, hard, calloused father myself
I can't relate, only imagine.
Thank You.

I know this feeling Chris and thank you for putting it into words so wonderfully. I have two daughters who I absolutely love, who never hesitate to hug me when they see me. Life is worthwhile because of family and those hugs...the best gifts ever.

Very nice and very well received, the hugs from my grown children are few and far between but great treasured, at this point their children still must be instructed to "give papa carl a hug" but it doesn't diminish the pleasure they give. Thanks for the post, well said, and well structured. -carl
