Past the Point of Return

Past the Point of Return

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(old material re-worked)

"
i found comfort once
in the fake embrace of my deceiver

where all sharps would subside
providing he was by my side

when tears of betrayal melted away
as ten red roses in a glass vase

a bouquet of fast fading guilt
cried out for my eyes to open wide

while decay set in my dismay grew
greener and unforgiving

dried roses left for days
till the heart implored no more

I cannot accept betrayal. Life is too valuable to waste on someone who doesn't value you. Roses are the chosen gift of the deceiver and many do fall for their floral charms despite their heart and mind knowing better. There is sadness in your lines that speak from experience and a wounded heart. So many will relate. Touching words expressed.

This reads so very sad .. I wonder if you ever got an apology or an explanation .. One thing seems for sure though, you got over him .. Well penned my friend :)

roses fade and wilt as do some relationships when one side is not true to the other...
why does it take so long for us to open our eyes to betrayal? I will never know, but I have had my eyes shut tightly more than once.
the wording is excellent here...i have come not to trust roses.

Betrayal is a sharp sword to the heart. It shatters a faith in a relationship, the trut in a bond. It leaves us with bitter pills to swallow.
Sad but true. You are purging those things.
