Now and Then

Now and Then

A Poem by Chris Shaw

it's a glory day sitting outside
the crown and anchor
overlooking this inner harbour

with a coffee and brandy
as the sun reaches the yardarm
so positively pleasant

while little boats barely move on
water that glints with sequinned
spangles and i

watch old fishing trawlers rust
while the tang of salt tastes
on my upper lip

as memories like the ebb and flow
of the tides wash from corridors
of my mind unsurpressed

The sea, with its ebb and flow churns memories and brings forth such emotions from within. I loved the stunning imagery of the water that glints with sequined spangles. I drink in the sights, smells and tastes of that lovely day you spent at the harbour. The sea is a great magician and never disappoints. We always come away refreshed. Loved this poem, dear Chris!

What beautiful scenery your poetry creates in the mind, a wonderland of lovely visions. I love what I saw in this. There is a serenity to this poem that feels so good. I always feel at home near the sea. Really nice Chris

It’s wonderful to find a moment in time and a quiet place to just be… and to feel connected to all the world around you.

The scene in my senses as I read this.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful poetry.

Scott.

how beautiful the flow .. imaging takes me right into you, Chris .. with your coffee and brandy .. love these especially: "... glints with sequinned spangles" and " ... tang of salt tastes on my upper lip" ..the metaphor/analogies (I have a hard time distinguishing them) are strong .. from little boats barely moving to ebb and flow .. and the rusting ..reading makes me feel warm about my own inner harbor .. what a treat to read .. thanks for sharing always .. peace and love

That sounds about as relaxing as you can be. The harbor and the calm of the boats coming in with their catch. Soothing. Nice Chris.

I loved the poem dear Chris. I have become, like my grandfather. At 8 pm. A glass of whiskey and a glass of water. Sit in the yard and watch the night appear.

The above lines. I do like. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry. I did enjoy.
