Souvenirs

Souvenirs

A Poem by Chris Shaw

it's not often the case
i am attracted to or drawn
towards displays of craft art

yet beside the harbour
in the undercover marketplace
I discovered temptation

to both my surprise
and delight delectable brooches
designed in sterling silver

delicate dragonflies adorned
with the tiniest of sea pearls dotted
down a segmented abdomen

wings worked intricately
like fine lace in appearance
on silver sheet which left its mark

as did the mesmerising eyes
of course of the seller which danced
below a blue paisley head band

a reminder of another time
another place when I could have
should have and sadly didn't

As a crafter, I understand your appreciation for the brooches you saw but I can assure you (I think) the seller in the blue head band was very proud of their wares and hopeful you would purchase one. Though maybe not, but I would have been had you been looking on my art. I know that I take each piece personally and put a lot of love into what I do. Just as I can you have with your poem. I suppose we are all crafters. Though, thinking about it...I have never seen a booth at a fair offering hand crafted poems, perhaps we will have to change that. : )

You bring it to a close so perfectly, capturing the pride and hope in the seller's eyes. I know this so well and have similar regrets. Something I passed on but wish I hadn't.

Another gem, the poem, the last three lines leaving me wondering as to what and why you never:)
Your writing never drops below A+ and so it gives me great pleasure to announce you are top, or very near top, of the class :)))))

We have several similar places in Bristol Chris - often Sterling Silver Rings etc can be bought for a fraction of the price of similar Gold items in Jewellers - and can still make nice presents for the right person, particularly younger females. You describe this type of venue very well, and the attraction thereof ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

never understood the separations of art and crafts ... both are expressions most show great skill
but more importantly imagination that gives a starting point for the messages found within

well said chris! ... SUPPORT THE ARTS, you will feel better!

Regretful as it is, such amazing handcrafted skills no longer practiced nowadays, so even more exciting when we come across such hidden gems, and especially surprisingly so, not behind security glass within a high street jewelers, but here, ' yet beside the harbour
in the undercover marketplace
I discovered temptation '

Beautiful, fine, flowing poem so poetically portrayed, brings one back to a more earthy, sincere, less
complicated time!

Beautifully crafted and finely wrought jewelry is a temptation, as is beautifully crafted and finely wrought words. I found both here!
