Never A Pair

Never A Pair

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(more fun, a spontaneous write)

"
dear one I rarely breakfast
however I can assure you
socks don't feature on a menu
of blueberries with cereal

neither would I wear them
as I prefer that my toes have
freedom of movement fresh air
and a slick coat of vivid colour

as far as I know there isn't
a secret spot within the washing
machine which hoards what
you say has gone missing

nor a plot to deny you
of possessions clearly dear
to your grieving sockless
and naked feet

so the solution that fits well
clear as a pane of window glass
take control of wash day
and do a bit yourself

start without delay
take on full responsibility
for all your own foot huggers
there are no sock muggers here

Typical woman expectations!
the concept of men washing their own socks is contrary to the laws of houseworkidization
next you'll want him to make breakfast, dust, food shop, take out the garbage, cook the meals, weed the garden, pay the bills, handle the tax receipts, patch holes in the seat of his pants, load and unload the dishwasher, hang up his clothes, make the bed, feed and walk the dog, clean the windows, wash the floor, be the first one up each morning, buy all the birthday presents, look for bargains, iron the clothes, spread out the birdseed, etc. etc.
Can't you see the chaos you're creating for the sake of one lousy sock

Bu..bu..but what about the sock monsters that live behind the washer and dryer? I saw something about them on the internet so I know they must be real! And the evidence is plain to see as my toes are also free. And the ones I can find are all chewed up. What, but a monstrous almond mugger could do that?

Actually Chris, I came to your profile to share my concern for all of you in the heat. Hope you are far from flames and cucumber cool! We had what you have last year here where we haven't much air conditioning. 109! I think most of the cafe is looking for cool drinks of words right now. I think we've all written about this phenomenon. I hope you're ok.

Oh boy did this make me laugh... Yes, do your own laundry... or do you think I am holding your socks for later use?
Hysterical and such a fabulous subject matter to write about...
P.S. Never happens here anymore... All my husbands socks have a pattern to them...all different and not one has escaped from the washer or dryer in many, many years... They tend to stay together, ha ha...
