Riding The Crest of a Wave

Riding The Crest of a Wave

A Poem by Chris Shaw

cradled in your arms
without a doubt i know
I can't travel that far back
though my heart song tells me so

soul pours forth its love
like a fountain overflowing
I embrace the ash of you
in silence not for showing

in birth i was your pain
in death you remain with me
until tomorrow's last farewell
when the tides will set you free

Don't know how I missed this one Chris, but beautifully written.
Gives me thoughts of how a woman brings us all into the world and the birth pain isn't the only pain they feel, but the pain of having to do better than the last generation did.
She did do an okay job though, didn't she? 😊
Beautifully penned, as ever.

Sad and heart-wrenching. I was so touched by the event and the wording which overflows with sadness. Such is life, short and full of tragedy. At least the narrator is taking it in realistic strides, with good perception and outlook.

Dearest Chris,
The loss of anyone that is so close to you is difficult to bear.
Your poem is so so lovely..
I lost my mother to Alzheimers at the age of 85...she was so young....There is barely a day that goes by that I do not think of her.
By the way,
I was organising my poems and reviewers, etc...and I do not think you read Forever... I know you read Forevermore..
I think you might enjoy it..
Hugs to you from Spain my friend.. Lisa

Your welcome
a lovely ode to your late mother. I can't remember a piece of my childhood, snuggled in your arms...to know the love in which i was embraced....but I embrace you in your death, your ashes, as you may not realize how much I loved you...did I not show you enough?
very poignant with a bit of sadness.
Best, B

I take it this is a memorial to your late mother. It is a very moving piece and very nicely rhymed. It appears you plan to spread her ashes on a body of water, which is a lovely gesture. From the sea we came; to it we return in the end.

Quite sad and lovely. This appears to be about your mom and the loss of her. She will be set free when you spread her ashes over the water. You’ve said all that in such a lovely way. Very nice, Chris.

When your heart sings of/for your Mom, it sings and radiates with pure, genuine and divine Love. to say this is hauntingly beautiful, movingly gorgeous is little... You leave us with a memorial touch of beauty.

You are a sweetheart. 🌹
this brings tons of emotion to my heart , Chris...Second stanza, first line, I read as "its"---
the first two lines of the last stanza work so well to leave an imprint on the reader.
