Another Lovely Day

Another Lovely Day

A Poem by Chris Shaw

as sun glare burns bright
energising bones weary from
coolness of recent June days

a mallard lazes on the pontoon
absorbing the early morning heat
dozing in half sleep

willows in the distance dip their
tumbling tresses into the river's
mirror reflection

while a single feather in its softness
a white purity caresses the surface water
with a light morning kiss

there is bliss for those who dwell
in moods of blue if they take off their
shoes and dance to nature's gift

how uplifting is this coming our way
what's more not a penny to pay for
gazing on sights set before our eyes

This one could be read as an antidote to a stressful day's work and then a bout of evening rush hours traffic. The word pictures conjure up images of peacefulness in the mind. And, as the poem states, they are all without charge. Forget the iPhones and just go outside for a while.

In another life I bet you'd be a hunter of birds in one way or another.

Even though you don't write like it, I can tell that you're a predator.

Just being an observer of nature can be way too peaceful sometimes and the poem itself depicts how much of a nature lover you are.
The imageries used in the poem is just so beautifully presented. You are indeed among the most inspirational writer i have come across in the website. Thanks a lot for sharing such beautiful works.

Good morning Chris,
Oh, such a lovely poem... Nature always at its best...no matter what.
Wonderful to be outdoors and smell the air and enjoy the trees, flowers, mountains, etc.
Nearby we have a a farmer with about 20 goats.. so when we walk we are able to view them.. Often there are new ones..so so small.. love it... Then, the other day a farmer (who speaks no english) pulled three huge sweets onions out from the ground and handed them to us through his fence... Now..this is what life is about!!!
And, one of the reasons we moved here...

Thank you so much Chris
Nature has many great sights, aromas and sounds to offer, and most of us enjoy the sunshine, when it is there. I go for walks in the local countryside several times a week, with just my camera bag for company. Usually no more than a mile or two, but there is always something good to experience, from butterflies and bees visiting the flowers, to horses and cattle in the fields. And the trees - I am a great lover of trees. Nature can soothe our soul if we wander among her treasures at a leisurely pace. A fine poem, Chris, poetically rendered! I enjoyed the read!

Chris,
What a lovely picture you paint here! The gentle imagery, reinforced by the use of the many sibilants, whispers of the calming, warming natural beauty of the scene. We have had an unusually chilly June here in eastern Washington, US, also, making mornings like you’ve described rare this year, and all the more precious. Beautifully done!
