Lure of Nightfall

Lure of Nightfall

A Poem by Chris Shaw

behold the lure of twilight
the rise and fall of waves
all of this is short lived
as night paves way for day

moonlight floods salt water
embraces moody sea
with flecks of silvered sequins
shimmering back at me

standing atop a cliff edge
with a view across this bay
all of this is fleeting
as night paves way for day

Hi Chris. This reminds me of something that I would try write when I was younger and full of love for the natural world, but I could never feel like I "pulled it off" so to speak. You do. This poem of experience just fills you up effortlessly. What I think I'm trying to say is that in reading each line, I felt I could have a nice glass of whiskey and stare off that cliff practically forever. HA, funny things is we know a bottle don't last that long. I really like this one.

You paint these images so well Chris. The reader can't help but see themselves there with you. I loved the line "with flecks of silvered sequins...shimmering back at me". That puts me right there in that image. Very nicely done.

This one is a beautiful picture of a slice of nature, the view from a cliff of the sea as the twilight closes in. It might even be a metaphor for life, which is also fleeting.

I think that the fact you are submitting often, quite a few poems .... shows that you are working on your poetry..And, it definitely reveals your amazing progression through the poems I read of yours. This one is fabulous..
I always tell my art students to do some art work daily and if they do they will become much better painters...and, so it goes for writing...and, other creative ventures.like my piano playing.
I really enjoyed your poem, Chris...

this reminds me of the beginning of the movie The Uninvited...the beautiful, but possibly dangerous sea.
but there is such beauty in that moody sea...and there is certainly a lure and temptation in nightfall.
thanks for this lovely picture painted in words,
j.

Thank you J. Yes danger and beauty together. Sometimes they go hand in hand.

dear Chris… even Nature is lured by the twilight... as Birds disappear to secret Coves where Doves keep Vigil. Moonlight will soon appear... Be still and listen to the Wind. Your poetry inspires the Lillies in the Pond to hibernate 'until the Whippoorwill sings. gently, Pat

Nicely done, with its moody, evocative theme. Night follows day, and a new day emerges - like a new gift for us all!

This reads like a song. Moody like the Cure. The title is striking and I keep reading it. Awesome work.

Yet, it will all come again. --- Such an easy reading poem, like the movement of the waves.
